Looking Back to Move Forward

We are excited to share that we have received a grant from the Kresge Foundation to conduct a 12 month participatory research project to explore the characteristics, assets and pre-conditions of cultural ecosystems in Detroit, Memphis and New Orleans. Looking Back to Move Forward aims to inform strategies and identify opportunities for recovery and renewal centered on racial equity, arts and community development.
In particular we are interested in working with partners in each community to further support and empower the vital work of ALAANA (African, Latinx, Asian, Arab, Native-American) artists, culture-keepers, and creative practitioners. It is critical to understand what is working and what might be needed and next in terms of catalytic, flexible, and comprehensive support and capitalization, as they work towards just transitions and transformations towards equitable futures. Work will begin in early 2021.
